He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

“اللہ، وہ جس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، زندہ ہے، سب کا نگہبان ہے۔ نہ اسے اونگھ آتی ہے اور نہ نیند۔ جو کچھ آسمانوں اور زمین میں ہے سب اسی کا ہے۔ کون ہے جو اس کی اجازت کے بغیر سفارش کرے؟ وہ جانتا ہے جو ان کے سامنے ہے اور جو ان کے پیچھے ہے۔ وہ اس کے علم میں سے کچھ بھی حاصل نہیں کر سکتے مگر جتنا وہ چاہے۔ اس کی کرسی آسمانوں اور زمین پر محیط ہے اور انہیں سنبھالنا اسے تھکاتا نہیں۔ وہ بلند اور عظیم ہے۔

الله، معبودی جز او نیست، زنده و پاینده است. نه خواب او را فرا میگیرد و نه چرت. آنچه در آسمانها و زمین است از آن اوست. کیست که جز به اذن او شفاعت کند؟ او آنچه را در پیش روی آنان و پشت سرشان است میداند، و از علم او به جز آنچه بخواهد در نمییابند. کرسی او آسمانها و زمین را در بر گرفته و نگهداری آنها او را خسته نمیکند. او والامرتبه و بزرگ است.”

There is a very famous and well-known narration from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA), which is recorded in many books, including Sahih Muslim and Sahih Bukhari. The story goes as follows:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had appointed Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) to guard the zakat dates. One night, while Hazrat Abu Hurairah was keeping watch over the dates, a man came and began stealing the dates. Hazrat Abu Hurairah caught him and said, I will take you to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). The man pleaded, Do not take me to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH); I have small children and a wife who are very hungry. I am in great distress. Hazrat Abu Hurairah felt compassion for him and released him.
The next morning, Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) told the Prophet (PBUH) about the incident and mentioned that the man had begged him due to his family’s hunger, so he had let him go. The Prophet (PBUH) said, He will come back tonight. Hazrat Abu Hurairah, determined not to let him go this time, prepared himself. That night, the man returned and started stealing the dates again.
Hazrat Abu Hurairah caught him once more and said, This is the second time you have tried to steal the zakat dates, and I will not let you go now. I will surely take you to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). The man begged, My family is hungry, please have mercy on me. He pleaded intensely, and once again Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) felt compassion and let him go.
The next morning, the Prophet (PBUH) asked, What happened to your prisoner? Hazrat Abu Hurairah replied, O Messenger of Allah, I released him again. The Prophet (PBUH) said, Tonight, he will come again. Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) resolved that he would not let him go this time, as it was the third time. That night, the man came again, and Hazrat Abu Hurairah caught him in the act of stealing.
Hazrat Abu Hurairah said, You have stolen twice, and I have let you go both times, but this time I will not let you go. I will take you to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) for sure. The man said, Let me go, and I will teach you something beneficial. I will teach you a supplication that, if you recite it at night, an angel will guard you throughout the night, and no devil will come near you.
The next morning, the Prophet (PBUH) again asked, What happened to your prisoner? Hazrat Abu Hurairah replied, He came again last night, and I let him go after he promised to teach me a beneficial supplication. The Prophet (PBUH) asked, What supplication did he teach you? Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) said, He told me that if I recite Ayat al-Kursi before going to sleep, an angel will be appointed to protect me throughout the night, and no devil will come near me. The Prophet (PBUH) said, He spoke the truth, although he is usually a liar.
Then the Prophet (PBUH) asked, Do you know who that person was? Hazrat Abu Hurairah replied, Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (PBUH) said, That person who was stealing your dates and who taught you the supplication was Satan.
When Was Ayatul Kursi Revealed?

What did the Prophet say before sleeping?
